Jorge C. Otero, MD is a medical oncologist who joined Innovara as a Senior Consultant. Dr. Otero has executive level capabilities; extensive global experiences in clinical development and medical affairs; and proven record as business leader and strategist in the Pharmaceutical Industry for the last 20 years.
His most recent pharma positions were, Executive Medical Director of Clinical Development and Scientific Affairs in Amgen, VP Clinical Development and Medical Affairs of Oncology Emerging Markets & Asia Pacific in GSK and Global Medical Director in Lilly Oncology. He was the co-founder of Ethnic Research Initiative and Chair of the International Steering Committee.
After completing his MD degree from the Peruvian University Cayetano Heredia Medical School, Medical Oncology Residence and Research Fellow program at Peruvian National Cancer Institute, Dr. Otero began his career as a medical oncologist in Lima, Peru. He completed his Post-Doctoral Fellowship program at Johns Hopkins Oncology Center in Baltimore sponsored by International Union against Cancer Control (UICC); Cancer Research Campaign International Fellowship Program in Geneva, Switzerland; and John Fogarty International Research Program at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland. His medical profession included Attending Physician in Medical Oncology Department, Head of the Immuno-compromised patients’ unit and Executive Director of Clinical Research Division fostering clinical and basic research at National Cancer Institute, Lima, Peru, collaborating with US and EU Academic Institutions as well as an Investigator in multiple Industry sponsored clinical trials.
Dr. Otero is affiliated with numerous scientific societies, notably American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), International Union Cancer Control (UICC), European Society of Medical Oncology Peruvian Society of Hematology and International Association Study Lung Cancer. He has published more than 120 clinical and research papers and abstracts in peer review journals and scientific congresses.
In pharmaceutical business Dr. Otero’s key areas of expertise are strategic planning, medical affairs, business development, building multidisciplinary teams, integrated delivery teams, customer partnership, medical/commercial synergy. Dr. Otero is fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese and has extensive global experience.
