4TH ANNUAL FMSL OPEN SEMINAR IN SEOUL

Thank you to all who helped make the 4th annual Foundations for Medical Science Liaisons™ (FMSL) open seminar, held July 24-26 in Seoul, Korea, a great success! The FMSL open seminar is an experiential learning course for Medical Science Liaisons, focused on functional competencies, communications, and value-added skills that are essential to most MSLs. The course enables participants to leverage skills required of successful MSLs in today’s highly competitive healthcare markets in order to help them better achieve their goals, develop themselves in areas where advanced skills are required, and to better help the specialists with whom they collaborate.

Day 1: Collaboration

On the first day of the FMSL open seminar, participants explored global trends in healthcare, including value-based care and access, patient centricity and engagement, real world evidence (RWE), biosimilars, and big data and the digital world. They discovered what patients, specialists, and management value, and brainstormed what how they can leverage their role as MSLs to fill those needs.

Day 2: Customer Connection

On the second day, participants learned how and when to collaborate with medical thought leaders. They received a proprietary medical thought leader evaluation tool to assist them in organizing their database and selecting the correct medical thought leader for each situation.

Participants also analyzed group results of a development needs survey that they had completed prior to the beginning of the seminar, working in teams to diagnose their own development needs and develop strategies for improvement.

Day 3: Engagement

On the third day, participants focused on Investigator-Initiated Research (IIRs) and Real World Evidence (RWE), as well as engaging with specialists using shared decision-making principles. They learned to flex their emotional intelligence (EQ) for better communications with MDs and specialists.
