Epocrates allows the user to review drug information in depth, including interactions, alternate medications, and pill ID. The app also provides a BMI calculator, medical news, and more information on drug coverage provided by select insurance companies. The latest update is rated 4/5 stars on the iTunes app store, and boasts that “1 out of 2 physicians rely on Epocrates to enable better patient care.”

UpToDate ($400 annually)
UpToDate is a richly-populated, easy-to-use database of the most current medical research. Geared towards medical students, it includes detailed articles, clinical calculators, and a list of secondary lines of therapy. It is a bit pricy, but SteadyHealth claims that it is “worth every penny.”

Docphin (FREE)
Docphin helps you customize your journal lists, allowing you to focus on research that is relevant to your interests. You can read, download, and save articles directly from the app, as well as share folders of articles and receive alerts regarding new research. The app integrates with your institution’s library and stores your login so that you do not have to enter it in each time you download an article.
